        Foreign Minister Radosław Sikroski paid a working visit to Berlin on 18 December 2009 at the invitation of German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. During the meeting a prize-giving ceremony was held in recognition of contributions to developing Polish-German relations in 2009. [more]

        The Polish-Swedish Agreement on locating a Swedish consular officer in the premises of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kaliningrad was signed on 18 December 2009. The contracting parties are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Government Offices of Sweden (Foreign Ministry). [more]

Compensation for property left in the former eastern territories of Poland

The act of 8 July 2005 (Ustawa z dnia z dnia 8 lipca 2005 r. o realizacji prawa do rekompensaty z tytułu pozostawienia nieruchomości poza obecnymi granicami rzeczypospolitej polskiej, Journal of Laws 2005 No. 169 par. 1418) in Poland provides for compensation on an equal basis for all pre-war Polish citizens leaving land outside the present borders of Poland due to circumstances surrounding the 1939-1945 war. 

If you wish to make a claim for compensation you do not have to live in Poland today but you have to register your claim before the 31st  December 2008.

Here are the requirements for compensation:

  1. The owners of the land had to be Polish citizens in September 01, 1939;
  2. The owners of the land had to be living in Poland in September 01, 1939;
  3. The owners - or their heirs - must be Polish citizens now (you can apply for confirmation of your Polish citizenship if your parents were Polish citizens);
  4. The claimants must be able to show they have inheritance rights;
  5. There must be some way you can describe the property;
  6. Even if you do not have sufficient evidence now, you should still register your claim.

Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto may admit application to send it to the proper office in Poland.

Date of submitting application to the Consulate will be recognized as the date of admitting it by the office in Poland. Therefore it is possible to fulfill requirement of the Dec. 31, 2008 deadline by leaving application in the Consulate.

RAZEM: New Polish Art and Design in Scotland Exhibition /2-25 AUG 2008/

New Polish artists who have worked together previously under the aegis of Polish Art Scotland assisted by people from outside of the Polish community produced together new project Razem: New Polish Art and Design in Scotland. The artist have been selected from those attending workshops offered by Re:Create, an ongoing collaborative audience development programme between the Stills Gallery, The Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and the Edinburgh Printmakers. Many of the exhibiting artists are also taking part in It's My Place, a project which provides artistic support for Polish migrants.

On 13 July 2008, professor Bronislaw Geremek Former Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997-2000), member of the Parliament of the Republic of Poland and European Parliament was killed in car accident. He was a distingushed statesman, one of the Solidarity leaders nad an architect of political changes in Poland and Europe.


NEW CONSULAR FEES

Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Edinburgh kindly informs that on 12.01. 2009, new consular fees will be introduced as a result of EUR/GBP exchange rate changes, in line with the Minister of Foreign Affairs' regulation on the consular fees (Journal of Law No. 156, item 1530 of 5 September 2003)

Due to significant increase in the number of visa applications, process of issuing the visa takes up to 20 working days.



SCHENGEN AREA 

On 21st December 2007 Poland, together with 8 other new EU Member States, will join the Schengen area - a territory with no checks at internal borders formed by 24 States[1]. These States apply uniform rules concerning entry and short stays in their territories (more information in VISA SECTION)
